In this sculpture series, each woman symbolizes a principle in life that is portrayed through a cultural characteristic. Capturing the strengths, wisdom, beauty and spirit of women throughout the world and throughout time. Learning and teaching as true women of the spirit always do.
Reflecting tropical waters in shades of blue, green, purple and the bluest of skies, in a ceremonial Holoku gown with sacred leaf and flower leis, she performs the traditional hula dance, recalling palm trees swaying as trade winds bring the scent of a myriad of flowers.
The golden sun glistens off the waters and warms her face. She delicately expresses with her hands the stories passed down from generation to generation, and with her, you feel and understand the great Aloha spirit, her unconditional acceptance and love.
These gifts of son, dance, beauty and love remain in your heart and mind until you return again to the islands.
Dressed in ceremonial white doeskin, an Indian woman presents herself
as an offering to the Great Spirit. Many trails have been walked in her
life, and now, indicating harmony and a good heart, she talks to the great
spirit in the ancient language of her fathers with her hands she signs
“See my clean hands”.
The white light of the Great Spirit envelops her, a sign that he offering has
been accepted and a blessing given. She now walks in beauty.
It is often a person who looks upon an oyster shell does not take time to discover the pearl inside because of the rough outer appearance.
The older a Japanese woman becomes, the more subtle her clothing. Though her kimono may appear plain and uninteresting, woven inside are beautiful designs and colors the public never sees. She knows they are there and shares the beauty only with those who take time to get to know her. Just as each person has beauty inside that we must discover.
Having gathered plum and evergreen boughs, she now collects the bamboo shoot also very symbolic. We should be like the bamboo and bend in the wind, we should stand tall like the bamboo. Each item has special meaning; newness of life, everlasting and purity. She wraps them very carefully and leaves them at the doorstep as a promise of good fortune for the new year.

If life were a circle, water would be at the center – we are born of it, nourished by it, plant with it, cleanse with it, fight for it, struggle to obtain it and perish without it.
Here this woman freely and unconditionally gives her precious water. Water which she labored and sacrificed to obtain. In her life she never questions whether there is a God. She knows that He is her "Living Water", this knowing gives her courage and strength. For as I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon dry ground, so I will pour my spirit upon thee, and my blessings upon thine offspring. — Adapted from Isaiah 44:3

When you look upon her you see that she is young yet with her composure you sense the great potential within. She is confident but not prideful. Notice that she stands firmly on her feet. She does not wear shoes so that she can be close to Mother Earth and is grounded in who she is. Her dress is simple yet soft and flowing decorated with roses and ribbons. She holds her mothers hat behind her. Her future is in front of her, yet she is a part of all the women that came before her. Because she follows in her mothers footsteps, it is a path of goodness and righteousness and she will have great joy in her life.

En Couronne is a dance term describing the arm position outstretched over the head and represents a "crown". This is a crowning moment in time of a woman's life, a time of wonder and creation. She is placed within a flowering tree symbolizing the Tree of Life, newness, fruit, blessings and choices. She is dancing because of her joy for this experience, she is full of energy and grace and ponders all these things in her heart. The importance of bearing children is paramount to all of us and communities can only thrive and can grow because of families.
There is a great need of wise mothers and exemplary fathers to create homes and families that can instill values that pass from one generation to the next. The setting is a church pew. The young daughter is engrossed as she learns of the greatest event that has ever happened to mankind. She is encircled by her father's arms of security, stability, strength, guidance and will learn many lessons from her time with her father. It will also help to determine the kind of father she wants for her children and the things she will teach to her family. Though not spoken of frequently today, exemplary fathers play a role in forming wise mothers and how preciously short the time is for a father to influence his children.
